Most of our clients are publicly owned corporations, both U.S.-based and international. We also advise private businesses, individuals and nonprofits. When a client engages us to work in any of our primary practice areas, our experience in the others enriches the advice and results we deliver.
We number approximately 80 professionals. They are all accomplished in the disciplines of communication; they also bring to us expertise in law, finance, strategic planning, traditional and digital media, electoral and regulatory politics, investment banking and corporate management, all available to clients as needed.
AMO, our international network, was formed to connect us with the agencies most like us in the financial centers of the world. We now comprise 11 agencies in 35 cities on four continents. These established relationships have become essential as the global dimension of business activity has grown. Ours is a flexible network: We work with other agencies regularly when special expertise is needed in specific countries.
James Abernathy founded The Abernathy MacGregor Group in 1984. Before that, he spent a decade at American Broadcasting Companies, the last three years as vice president of corporate affairs, with responsibility for ABC’s corporate public relations. A former editor of several broadcasting trade publications, he was also vice president for public and investor relations of Warner Communications and a PR and investor relations executive at CBS Inc.
Tom Johnson is the head of mergers and acquisitions. His experience covers the full range of high-profile takeovers, cross-border acquisitions, contested merger situations, proxy contests, crisis communications, defense against activist investors, and initial public offerings. He is also an expert in media strategy. His recent M&A advisory work includes Joh A. Benckiser, Quest Software, Sanofi and UPS.
Chuck Burgess advises senior executives and boards on strategic communications, investor relations, media relations and M&A communications in a broad range of industries, including transportation, technology, healthcare, real estate, consumer products and manufacturing. He has managed communications for more than 150 friendly and hostile transactions totaling more than $250 billion.
Carina Davidson co-manages AMG’s initial public offering (IPO) practice. She oversees public relations and investor relations programs for clients across a wide range of industries, including energy, investment banking, insurance, alternative asset management, and engineering and construction. She assists pre-public and newly public companies with media relations, IPO messaging/positioning, infrastructure build-out and more.
