Actress Jennifer Aniston was recently spotted at the airport with boyfriend Justin Theroux wearing what can only be described as MC Hammer-esque: Her cropped dark denim jeans featured a drop crotch a little too reminiscent of rapper MC Hammer’s harem-style pants of the early ’90s.
Aniston has always been a fashion and beauty trendsetter. Her “Rachel” hairstyle inspired by her “Friends” character kicked off a major trend, and despite Aniston’s comments about how it wasn’t her best look, it continues to be a popular style today.
But all I could think when I saw the photos was, Please don’t let this style catch on—and didn’t Aniston learn anything from Jessica Simpson’s mom jeans gaffe?
Let’s be honest: Denim, once a red carpet faux pas, is everywhere! I mean, who could forget Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake in their coordinated denim ensemble? Designer Olivier Theyskens even dressed model Caroline Trentini in a denim dress on the ultimate fashion red carpet at this year’s Met Ball.
With more than 450 million pairs of jeans sold every year in the U.S., designers are constantly looking for new ways to reinvent the wardrobe staple.
I love jeans. I love dressing them up with chunky necklaces for a night out. I love rolling them up and pairing them with a T-shirt on the weekend. I’ve even jumped on the colored jean bandwagon (brightly hued skinny jeans are all the rage this summer.) In fact, walk down just about any city street today, and you can find jeans in almost every single color of the rainbow. Needless to say, they are a major staple in my wardrobe.
But despite my love of Aniston and of jeans, this is one style I just can’t get behind.

I saw the photo and it looks like she repurposed a pair of Theroux’s pants for her own use. Maybe it was laundry day? Or she just wanted to fly in comfort?
