More Parents Are Raising Children Without Traditional Gender Roles

A growing number of parents are raising children without the pink-and-blue binaries of the past, a new survey from Havas PR North America shows. The survey found that 61 percent of women and 46 percent of men believe that children should be raised in as gender neutral a way as possible. And this shift in attitudes is being mirrored by companies, Havas CEO Marian Salzman says.

Brand owners should make an effort to combat stereotyping by degendering their products, packaging, in-store experience and other marketing communications, new research conducted by Havas PR North America suggests. “The traditional binary notion of gender simply doesn’t work anymore–for advertisers, for manufacturers, for educators, for anyone,” Havas CEO Marian Salzman explains. She adds that businesses should focus instead on individuals’ human potential.
